The eec is pleased to announce that it has updated the Digital Marketers Guide to Canada’s Anti-Spam Law to assist email marketers in the many facets of complying with the law. This comprehensive guide provides tips and defines key terms to assist you throughout your journey and timeline to CASL compliance:
- prior to 2014,
- during the transition period of 2014-2017, and
- 2017 and beyond.
We have updated the Guide to reflect the Government of Canada’s recent decision to suspend the private right of action (PRA) provision – which would have allowed consumers to sue for actual and/or statutory damages for violations of the law. This could have resulted in consumers being awarded monies without proof of harm. It remains to be seen when, or if, this will go into effect at a later date. The Email Experience Council and the eec Advocacy Subcommittee are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to keep you apprised of any future developments.
